Jacob van de Velde
Jacob is Head of Tech & Privacy and specialises in both civil and administrative law, with a focus on serving the public interest. These include cases involving government transparency, consumer protection, internet freedom and sustainable entrepreneurship.
He has successfully challenged penalty payments imposed on a large video on demand service for breaching e-commerce directives, has assisted companies in investigations by the Dutch Data Protection Authority and the consumers and markets authority ACM, and is currently involved in collective cases against Google, TikTok, Oracle and Salesforce.
He also assists individuals and public interest organisations in human rights cases on a pro bono basis, including representing aggrieved British citizens during Brexit. Jacob is one of the founders of the young privacy lawyers association Jonge Privacy Advocaten Nederland and writes on privacy law for legal publication Advocatenblad.
