On October 16 2024, Freedom House published a report on global Internet freedom. According to the American NGO, which conducted research in 72 countries, including in the Netherlands, global Internet freedom has declined for the fourteenth consecutive. There are growing concerns about online harassment, disinformation, unfair elections and surveillance. In contrast, the Netherlands, which is part of the survey for the first time, scores surprisingly well with a score of 83/100. Nevertheless, there are still ongoing concerns about, among other things, government surveillance and intimidation of journalists. Read the report on Internet freedom in the Netherlands here.
